Originally released 40 years ago, these wild donkeys have helped revive the area by digging for water and aiding in the growth of native plants. Their activities have created water sources for other wildlife and facilitated the germination of acacia trees, essential for the desert ecosystem. The project, which began with the introduction of Persian and African wild donkeys, has led to a population of 500-600 donkeys today, showcasing the unexpected ecological benefits of these animals.
