A significant fire devastated thousands of hectares in the Deliblatska Peščara ecosystem in Serbia, lasting nearly a month. Romanian firefighters assisted in extinguishing the blaze, sending 69 firefighters and 15 vehicles through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Their mission lasted two weeks, concluding on September 5, 2026. Recovery of the affected vegetation and habitats may take several years. Serbian photographers from the Kamerades association documented the fire, including the efforts of Romanian firefighters. Kamerades aims to promote documentary photography and raise awareness of social issues in the Balkans.
