FT: SUA propun deblocarea unor active rusești înghețate

The U.S. proposed unfreezing part of Russia's sovereign assets to facilitate peace talks, but European representatives rejected the idea. The proposal was discussed in Miami among U.S. emissaries and officials from Ukraine and European nations. Concerns arose regarding Washington's intentions and the approach to pressuring Moscow. While Western nations froze around €260 billion of Russian assets post-invasion, many European governments oppose direct confiscation. Ukraine has received €45 billion in loans from G7 states, funded by interest from frozen assets. A decision to unfreeze funds would require unanimous EU agreement, which seems unlikely. Russia continues to demand the return of its frozen assets, with Kremlin officials stating they will pursue legal actions to recover them.
