In the first half of 2026, online investment frauds in Romania caused losses nearing 100 million lei, according to a study by the Romanian Police. The analysis covered over 1,200 reports of scams involving investments in stocks and cryptocurrencies. Most victims were urban residents, with a significant number being retirees and employed individuals. The majority of victims were aged between 46 and 75, and many had only secondary education. The most common fraud method involved requesting money transfers. The police plan to enhance awareness and investigative efforts to combat these crimes.
