France is open to collaborating with Sweden on a new generation fighter jet, as stated by an Élysée official. Both countries are interested in developing similar aircraft. France has engine production capabilities that Sweden lacks, presenting a potential area for cooperation. This announcement follows the failure of the Future Combat Air System project involving France, Germany, and Spain. France and Germany are now seeking to engage Sweden in future fighter jet development. Saab produces the Gripen fighter, but its engine technology comes from GE Aerospace, while French Rafale engines are made by Safran. No official agreements have been made yet regarding this collaboration, and Sweden will decide on its future fighter jet program by September 2027.
