France's economic growth forecast has been downgraded, with the government expected to miss its budget deficit reduction target. Finance Minister Roland Lescure announced a revised growth rate of 0.5% for 2026, down from 0.7%, while maintaining a 1% growth estimate for next year. The government faces challenges in finalizing the 2027 budget amid rising borrowing costs and economic uncertainties. Lescure noted that the budget was based on a 5% deficit target, which is now unattainable. France will spend €65 billion on debt repayment this year, exceeding initial plans by €4.5 billion.
