Two NGOs warn that the number of farmers in France may decline due to insufficient support for generational transfer in agriculture, especially as many are nearing retirement. Half of the 400,000 French farmers are expected to retire by 2030, with two-thirds of those over 60 lacking successors. Despite new measures, the support policies for farm transfers are deemed inadequate. A goal of 500,000 farmers by 2035 is set, with a new assistance office planned for 2027. Current support averages only €1,720 per new farm, compared to €7,500 for career changes in other sectors. Working conditions in agriculture are poorer than in other fields, with many temporary contracts and lower wages. France has already lost 100,000 farms from 2010 to 2020, and its agricultural balance has significantly decreased, indicating a critical situation for the country's agricultural sector.
