French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced plans to save €54 billion by 2027 to control the budget deficit, which could reach 6.5% of GDP without spending cuts. He emphasized the need for these savings due to rising healthcare costs from an aging population. France's debt has surged from €2.3 trillion to over €3.5 trillion, exacerbated by global interest rate increases. Lecornu opposes tax hikes and stated that the country needs an additional €10 billion to manage its debt burden. The government has revised its deficit target for this year to over 5% and lowered economic growth forecasts. The upcoming budget proposal will face challenges due to the lack of a parliamentary majority and the approaching presidential elections in 2027.
