France has recorded over 20% unavailability in its nuclear energy production capacity due to environmental constraints, setting a new record. The country's nuclear energy accounts for about 70% of its electricity production, which has been disrupted this year by heatwaves and droughts. Thirteen out of 57 reactors were affected, with eight completely shut down and five operating at reduced capacity. The Gravelines plant, the largest in Western Europe, faced significant issues due to jellyfish clogging cooling pumps. Extreme heat and drought have also impacted other reactors, forcing EDF to limit production to protect the environment.
