The history of trams in Bucharest dates back to the late 19th century, starting with horse-drawn vehicles. The first electric tram line was inaugurated in 1894. By the 1920s, trams were modified for winter comfort, with significant developments in public transport initiated by the establishment of the "Societatea Comunala pentru Construcțiunea și Exploatarea Tramvaielor" in 1909. The STB evolved into a major public transport provider, featuring unique operational methods, including manual and electric braking systems. Interior designs included wooden seats and series-connected lighting. Today, modern Imperio trams are in service, with an exhibition available for those interested in the history of STB.
