Preparations are underway for the launch of the TBM that will excavate the Poiana Tunnel, the longest on the A1 Bucharest-Sibiu highway. This will be the first underground highway tunnel bored using this technology. The platform for the TBM is nearly complete, and the first component, the cutter head, is expected to arrive soon. The tunnel will span 1,780 meters and feature two galleries with two lanes each. The project is being executed by an Italian-Romanian consortium and is funded through the Transport Program, with costs estimated at 5.3 billion lei. The countdown for the TBM's arrival has begun.
