Hotel Hugues, the first luxury restaurant in Bucharest, was established by Belgian chef Donat Hugues in the 1830s. It introduced truffles to the local cuisine and became a social hub for the elite. The hotel underwent several transformations, including a name change to Hotel Riegler, and faced significant damage during World War II. Its architectural identity was lost during the communist era, turning it into a residential block.
