The Costescu family chapel in Bellu Cemetery reveals a rich history marked by noble ascent and a tragic end. Genealogist Mihail D. Sturza traced the family's roots to Iordache, a Greek caimacam, and his wife Manda. Their son, Barbu Costescu, changed the family name in the 18th century. Alexandru Costescu, a significant landowner and public official, contributed to local community life, founding a church and donating land for a school. His wife, Maria, met a tragic fate in 1927 when she was murdered during a robbery attempt. Both are buried in an ornate chapel in Bellu Cemetery, reflecting their legacy.
