Severe drought has drastically altered the landscape of the Jiu River, with historic low water levels recorded at the Răcari hydrometric station. Photos taken on August 24 show large dry riverbeds and sandbanks. Hydrologists confirm that the river's flow remains critically low due to prolonged insufficient rainfall. Measurements indicate that the Jiu's water levels are below 30% of the multiannual averages for August, affecting not only the Jiu but also other rivers in the country. The Danube is also experiencing significantly reduced flow rates.
