The National Environmental Guard conducted inspections at the Vidra waste dump and the Glina wastewater treatment plant, suspected sources of unpleasant odors in Bucharest. Following 55 inspections in response to complaints, significant fines and penalties were imposed on operators for environmental violations. The inspections revealed issues such as improper waste compaction and malfunctioning odor control systems, which contributed to the odor problem. The GNM has reported over 1,300 complaints about the smell, particularly in Sector 4, and is working with health authorities to address public health concerns related to these emissions. The findings indicate a need for better management of waste and biogas systems to prevent future occurrences.
