Bicycles are now allowed on bus lanes in Bucharest, with initial markings appearing on Splaiul Independenței. This temporary measure follows a public appeal for better access for cyclists. The initiative stems from a law allowing motorcycles and mopeds on these lanes, leading to the inclusion of bicycles as a transitional mobility solution. Currently, the city has 58 km of bus lanes but only 25 km of functional bike paths. To ensure safety, dedicated lanes must be protected, potentially using cameras to monitor and penalize unauthorized vehicles. This change aims to enhance urban mobility and safety for cyclists.
