On September 1, 1912, the film "Independența României" premiered in Bucharest, marking the first Romanian feature film and a significant historical cinematic production. Inspired by the Romanian War of Independence (1877-1878), it featured renowned actors from the National Theatre and received support from the military, showcasing a crucial chapter in national history. Although not the first cinematic work in Romania, it holds a unique place in cultural history as the oldest preserved Romanian fiction feature. The film generated immense interest prior to its release, with previews published in the magazine "Flacăra." It was screened three times daily at the largest theater in Bucharest, with impressive military collaboration for battle reenactments. Historical figures like King Carol I and Ion C. Brătianu were portrayed by prominent actors, contributing to its cultural significance.
