This crater, measuring 222 meters in diameter, is believed to have been created by a comet or asteroid in spring 2024. The finding is significant as it represents a rare occurrence, happening only once a century. The crater was identified through images from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera, which has been studying the Moon since 2009. This event provides valuable insights into lunar geology, as the object causing the impact was the size of a three to six-story building. Unlike Earth, the Moon's lack of atmosphere allows such objects to strike its surface without being slowed down or burned up.
