The Camino de Santiago has fostered a sustainable tourism ecosystem in Spain over the past 30 years, with 1.5 million pilgrims expected in 2025. In Romania, historical research shows that pilgrims also traveled through the country, prompting the marking of over 600 kilometers of routes. To integrate these routes into the European Camino network, coordination among local communities, institutions, and the private sector is essential. An event celebrating 145 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and Spain highlighted the potential of the Camino in Romania. Spanish officials emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships and local involvement in developing the tourism ecosystem around the Camino.
