Italian contractor WeBuild is progressing with preparatory work for the longest tunnel through the Carpathians, as recent images show. The company has also started asphalt work on an experimental section of the A1 Sibiu-Pitești highway. The tunnel, named Poiana, will be 1.78 kilometers long, with tunneling equipment set to launch from the Sibiu side. This decision was made due to necessary ground consolidations at the Pitești portal. Currently, about 30% of the site is active, including work on the tunnel and 14 structures. Overall, physical progress on the project is at approximately 18%.
