Fostul șef al spionajului german, acuzat de trădare, a fost plasat în arest preventiv • Newsweek România
August Hanning, former head of Germany's BND, has been placed in preventive detention on charges of treason and espionage. Alongside him, his former chief of staff, Manfred D., is also in custody for allegedly providing classified documents in exchange for money. Hanning, who led the BND from 1998 to 2005, is accused of receiving around 2,000 confidential documents from Manfred D. until 2022. The German Federal Prosecutor's Office claims Hanning used these documents to assist a foreign intelligence service. Reports suggest he maintained contact with an agent from Azerbaijan, raising concerns about potential espionage activities. Azerbaijan has denied the allegations, calling them a manipulation of information.
