Ionel Onofraş, a former mayor of Iaşi, was extradited to Romania after being internationally wanted for sexual offenses. He received a sentence of 19 years and 4 months for rape and sexual assault. Onofraş held the mayoral position briefly after the 1989 Revolution. He was arrested in Italy and is now in custody to serve his sentence.
