Fostul preşedinte sirian Bashar al-Assad şi fratele său mai mic au fost condamnaţi la moarte în absenţă • Newsweek România
Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his brother have been sentenced to death in absentia for crimes against humanity and war crimes during the Syrian conflict. This ruling marks the first legal action against Assad and his inner circle since the family's power began over five decades ago. The court also sentenced Assad's maternal cousin, Atef Najib, for his role in the violent repression in Daraa that sparked the civil war. Assad and his brother fled to Russia after the government fell in December 2024, where they were granted political asylum. The new Syrian leadership has requested their extradition from Russia.
