Renovation works at the former Maria Tereza orphanage in Sibiu have commenced, revealing artifacts over 200 years old. The investment exceeds 70 million lei. The project aims to restore historical elements and modernize the building for comfort and energy efficiency. Initial demolition and archaeological research have uncovered 18th and 19th-century remains. The total investment includes European funding and focuses on restoring murals, baroque roofs, and monumental gates. The building will also receive modern utility upgrades and security systems, with completion expected by January 2028. This project complements other heritage restoration efforts in Sibiu, such as the ongoing rehabilitation of the Council Tower.
