Fosta primă doamnă a Sri Lankăi, arestată pentru donații destinate unui spital de copii

Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the wife of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested over allegations of misusing donations intended for a children's hospital scanner. The anti-corruption authorities detained her at her Colombo home, investigating around 10 million rupees raised by the charity Siriliya Saviya. The funds were meant for a specialized scanner for Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital, but suspicions arose as the equipment was reportedly donated by the Chinese government. Rajapaksa denies any wrongdoing, claiming the funds were not misappropriated. The Rajapaksa family has faced renewed corruption investigations following widespread protests in Sri Lanka in 2022, leading to the ousting of Mahinda's brother, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, from the presidency.
