Fost congresman american condamnat la 10 ani de închisoare pentru spălare de bani și muncă ilegală ca agent străin
Former U.S. Congressman David Rivera was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for money laundering and acting as an unregistered foreign agent. Rivera, who served from 2011 to 2013, was found guilty of lobbying for Venezuela's state oil company to improve U.S.-Venezuela relations. His associate, Esther Nuhfer, was also convicted. Prosecutors revealed they received a $50 million contract for their lobbying efforts during a time of strained relations between the U.S. and Venezuela. Rivera's defense argued they were working for an American subsidiary, not the Venezuelan government, but the judge emphasized the funds were linked to Maduro's regime. Rivera must also forfeit his Florida properties.
