As of June 2026, mandatory private pension funds in Romania held assets worth 237.4 billion lei, marking a 39% increase from the previous year. The majority of investments, 95%, were in Romanian assets, primarily in government bonds and listed shares. Contributions in June 2026 totaled 2.06 billion lei, with an average contribution of 447 lei. Government bonds accounted for the largest share of assets at 150.72 billion lei, followed by equities and investment funds. Over 8.5 million participants were registered in these pension funds.
