As of June 2026, mandatory private pension funds in Romania reached assets of 237.4 billion lei, marking a 39% increase from the previous year. The majority of investments, 95%, were in Romanian assets, primarily government bonds and stocks listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. Contributions in June totaled 2.06 billion lei, with an average contribution of 447 lei. Government bonds accounted for the largest share of assets at 150.72 billion lei, followed by stocks and investment funds. The number of participants in these pension funds exceeded 8.5 million.
