Starting September 1, 2026, Romanian companies, including SMEs and startups, can apply for grants up to €15 million for energy storage projects. The funding, totaling €150 million, is part of a state aid scheme financed by the Modernization Fund. Eligible projects must focus on autonomous battery storage systems and meet specific criteria, including financial stability and compliance with legal obligations. Applications will be submitted through MySMIS2021, with a focus on integrating renewable energy sources. The maximum aid intensity can reach 100% of eligible costs, with a cap of €69,000 per MWh of installed storage.
