The MV SUN is the sixth vessel targeted in recent months, highlighting the EU's commitment to enforcing maritime law and sanctions against Russia. The operation, EUNAVFOR MED IRINI, was initially launched to enforce an arms embargo on Libya and has since expanded its mandate to include monitoring suspicious vessels. Discussions on actions against the shadow fleet will take place among EU defense ministers in an upcoming meeting.
