The Trump administration will pay $1.2 billion to German energy company RWE, which will abandon its offshore wind projects in the U.S. RWE decided to withdraw from its concessions off the coasts of California, Louisiana, and New York Bight due to a lack of prospects for obtaining necessary permits. The company plans to redirect funds towards conventional energy projects, including a $900 million investment in a liquefied natural gas terminal in Louisiana. RWE aims to invest around €17 billion in the U.S. over the next six years to expand its energy production capacity. This agreement aligns with the Trump administration's focus on reducing offshore wind projects and promoting fossil fuel investments.
