As of Q2 2026, 48,028 companies have outstanding debts, an increase from the previous quarter. The total obligations to the state budget amount to 57.6 billion lei, with significant contributions from social security and health budgets. Bucharest accounts for over 41% of national debts, followed by Ilfov and Constanța. The construction sector has the highest debts, totaling 5.14 billion lei, with thousands of companies in arrears. Other sectors with high debts include wholesale trade and chemical industry.
