Finland has completed a 200 km security fence along its border with Russia to enhance NATO's longest border security. The project was initiated after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, prompting Finland to join NATO in April 2023. The fence, which is 4.5 meters high and equipped with cameras and sensors, aims to prevent unauthorized crossings and improve surveillance. It cost 356 million euros, with annual maintenance costs estimated at 2-3 million euros. Finland's Interior Minister emphasized the need for EU funding to support border security projects and proposed extending the Border Security Law until 2028, despite concerns over potential human rights violations.
