Hours before his death, he assaulted the woman, leading to police intervention and a restraining order against him. Following the altercation, he returned home, took a legally owned firearm, and disappeared. His body was discovered by a relative in a garage the next morning. Ioniță had a distinguished military career, serving over three decades and holding various high-ranking positions, including leading joint forces and participating in UN missions.
