Recent floods and storms in Romania have caused significant damage, prompting insurance companies to expedite claims processing for affected homeowners. The National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (UNSAR) reports a rise in payouts, particularly in the Bucharest-Ilfov region, where claims reached nearly 49 million lei, a 45% increase from the previous year. The North-East region saw the highest growth at 58%, with payouts nearing 29 million lei. Despite the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, only one in five homes in Romania is fully insured against such risks. UNSAR encourages affected homeowners to contact their insurers for damage assessment.
