Romania plans to resume sheep exports by the end of the year, contingent on a national vaccination campaign starting around October 1. The head of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, Alexandru Bociu, expressed optimism about the timeline, stating that vaccination against sheep pox and other diseases could be completed within 30-45 days. The country currently has 1.3 million doses of free vaccine available, with a total need of about 11 million doses. The vaccination campaign will be free for farmers, and efforts are underway to secure additional vaccines directly from producing countries. Bociu emphasized the importance of resuming exports for the sheep sector, highlighting new markets opened in recent years. The implementation of an Action Plan is crucial for stabilizing exports, while trade in meat and dairy products remains unaffected.
