The extremely low water flow of the Danube is impacting energy production, navigation, irrigation, and water supply. Experts emphasize the need for sustainable technical solutions alongside emergency measures, as vulnerabilities have been known for over two decades. The Romanian National Committee of Large Dams (CROMB) suggests forming a technical inter-institutional group to analyze short, medium, and long-term solutions. Current low levels threaten the operation of nuclear reactors and hydroelectric plants, highlighting the importance of water management for energy security. Historical projects for the lower Danube should be revisited to ensure energy production and better water level control.
