Romania faces challenges in healthcare and long-term care systems as its population ages. With nearly 20% of the population over 65, this figure could rise to 31% by 2050. The country spends only 0.3% of its GDP on long-term care, significantly lower than the OECD average of 1.7%. Access to care is particularly difficult for low-income individuals and those in rural areas. The International Longevity Congress in Bucharest aims to address these issues, bringing together experts to discuss aging mechanisms and health maintenance. Topics include aging biology, longevity biomarkers, and regenerative medicine, emphasizing the need for practical applications in healthcare. The goal is to ensure that increased life expectancy translates into healthier, more autonomous years.
