Experiment important al cercetătorului Sergiu Pașca, originar din Aiud: creiere de șoareci dezvoltate cu țesut cerebral uman
A team led by Romanian researcher Sergiu Pașca at Stanford University successfully integrated human cortical organoids into genetically modified mice, allowing for the study of human brain diseases. The experiment showed that over 90% of the cortical tissue in the mice became human after three months, forming functional connections with the animals' nervous systems. This model could advance research on conditions like schizophrenia and autism, as it allows for the examination of human brain circuits in a living organism. Notably, researchers discovered rare von Economo neurons in the mice, which may be linked to frontotemporal dementia, opening new avenues for studying this condition.
