In the first nine months of 2026, Romania recorded a budget deficit of 78.52 billion lei, a significant decrease from the previous year's 102.47 billion lei. The interim Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, highlighted that public investments rose by over 25 billion lei, reaching nearly 108 billion lei. He emphasized the importance of measuring the effectiveness of public investments and maintaining fiscal discipline while promoting development. Total revenues increased by 11.8% year-on-year, supported by tax revenues and European funds. Total expenditures rose nominally by 5.5%, but as a percentage of GDP, they decreased from 29.7% to 29.2%. Nazare stressed the need for responsible budgeting and the completion of projects rather than starting new ones without funding.
