The Romanian Court of Accounts, led by Mirela Călugăreanu, rejected a proposal to file a criminal complaint regarding the misappropriation of national budget funds by the Ciucă and Ciolacu governments. This decision followed audits revealing that the Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE) inaccurately recorded over one billion lei in financial statements for 2023 and 2024, claiming these were funds from the European Commission for teacher bonuses. Auditors identified potential criminal offenses, including fraud and forgery, as MIPE falsely reported funding sources. Despite the evidence, the Court decided against pursuing legal action, raising concerns about transparency and accountability in government financial practices.
