Romania ranks high in the EU for fuel price increases, with a 23% rise in June 2026 compared to June 2025. Eurostat data shows a general upward trend in fuel prices across the EU, with Romania being the third highest. The largest increases were noted in Bulgaria and Lithuania, while Hungary had the smallest rise. Despite the overall increase, EU consumers paid less for diesel and gasoline in June compared to May 2026. The interim Prime Minister stated that the government is closely monitoring fuel prices after a previous reduction expired, and new price control measures may be discussed if necessary.
