Europenii cumpără de aproape trei ori mai multe electronice decât colectează pentru reciclare. Unde ajung telefoanele și electrocasnicele vechi

In the EU, nearly three times more electrical and electronic equipment is sold than collected as waste. Eurostat's latest data shows a significant increase in this disparity over the past decade, driven by rising sales of appliances and devices. In 2024, an average of 12.3 kg of electronic waste was collected per person, while 32.4 kg of new equipment was introduced. The gap of 20.1 kg per person indicates that not all uncollected items are discarded; many are still in use or stored. From 2015 to 2024, the amount of new equipment rose by 79%, while collection rates increased more slowly. Bulgaria led in waste collection per capita, while Cyprus had the lowest. Eurostat warns that both sales and collection figures may be underestimated due to various reporting challenges.
