Over 900 universities and research institutes in Europe are urging the EU to allocate at least €200 billion for research and innovation in the upcoming Horizon Europe program. Seven major European organizations emphasize the need for a stable and ambitious budget for the 2028-2034 multiannual financial framework. The European Commission proposed €175 billion, but academic representatives warn that inflation and rising research costs diminish this increase's real value. They call for EU member states to invest at least 3% of their GDP in research and innovation, as current spending in Romania is significantly below the EU average. The initiative is supported by various organizations, including the European University Association (EUA) and several Romanian institutions.
