Europa ar putea primi gaze dintr-un zăcământ de lângă Cipru. Primele livrări sunt așteptate în 2028 • Newsweek România
Europe is set to receive natural gas from an offshore field near Cyprus starting in March 2028, as announced by Energy Minister Michael Damianos. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine and instability in the Middle East have prompted Europe to seek alternative energy sources, making the Eastern Mediterranean a viable option. TotalEnergies and Eni have decided to develop the Cronos field, which will involve constructing a pipeline to Egypt for processing and liquefaction. The project is estimated to cost around $2 billion, significantly lower than other projects due to existing infrastructure. While Cronos holds over 84.95 billion cubic meters of gas, a portion will be allocated for Egypt's domestic needs. Cyprus is also promoting an electrical interconnection project with Europe, although it faces bureaucratic challenges.
