Bulgaria has emerged as a leader in the Southeast European energy market due to reduced bureaucracy, a responsive market for green energy, and EU funds. The country has rapidly expanded its battery storage capacity and solar energy sources, with around 100 battery storage sites established in the last two years. This strategy has allowed Bulgaria to export significant amounts of electricity, particularly to Romania, during a summer marked by low water levels affecting energy generation in the region. Bulgaria's battery storage capacity is five times that of Romania, and it holds 9% of the EU's total battery storage capacity, positioning it as a model for other European nations.
