Eugen Teodorovici: Datoria publică va ajunge la 70%

Eugen Teodorovici, former Minister of Finance, warned that Romania's public debt may reach 70% of GDP by year-end, with the budget deficit exceeding the official target of 6.2%. He criticized the government for underfunding essential expenditures and highlighted that the 2026 budget lacks sufficient allocations for health programs and construction payments. Teodorovici pointed out that the actual budget deficit could be higher when including unpaid obligations to magistrates and other penalties. He also noted a slow pace in signing funding agreements for local projects, which could increase the state's borrowing needs. Romania's public debt stood at 61.4% of GDP as of May 2026, with a significant financing requirement for the year.
