A recent study reveals that certain individuals are more attractive to mosquitoes due to skin odors and the bacteria present on their skin. Researchers from Florida International University found that the natural scent of skin, influenced by bacteria, plays a significant role in mosquito attraction. The study involved 119 volunteers and tested three mosquito species, showing that attractiveness varies by species. Specific bacteria like Corynebacterium kefirresidentii and Staphylococcus epidermidis were linked to higher mosquito attraction. Understanding these factors could lead to better mosquito repellents and public health strategies against diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
