A recent operation in West Africa led to the arrest of nearly 30 scammers involved in romantic fraud targeting vulnerable individuals, particularly in the UK and the US. Coordinated by law enforcement agencies and tech companies, the operation identified numerous victims and confiscated electronic devices. The National Crime Agency (NCA) highlighted the prevalence of investment frauds originating from West Africa, often using romantic scams to lure victims. Authorities also noted a significant number of profiles linked to scams were shut down by Meta. The operation revealed potential funds amounting to $11 million that could be blocked, emphasizing the need for international cooperation in combating such crimes.
