Turkey is planning a significant expansion of Istanbul Airport, aiming for nine runways and an annual capacity of 200 million passengers. President Erdoğan announced the opening of the fourth main runway, which is 2,820 meters long and will enhance operational efficiency. The expansion includes two additional main runways and a new terminal to accommodate increasing air traffic, with the airport having already served over 475 million passengers since its opening. The new runway will primarily facilitate eastbound departures, reducing taxi times and fuel consumption.
